What the question requires
Outline and explain means that students must identify two different effects of women's increased participation in paid employment and explain how each affects gender roles or relationships within families. For 10 marks, two developed paragraphs are needed. There is no Item and no requirement for a conclusion or formal evaluation.
The connection between the two parts of the question is crucial. Simply describing women's employment, or simply describing changing gender roles, will not be enough. Official mark schemes for closely related questions have credited connections involving dual-earner households, joint conjugal roles, women's financial independence and changes in decision-making.
