What the question requires
Outline and explain requires students to identify two distinct ways in which disability may be socially constructed and then explain the sociological process involved in each. For 10 marks, two well-developed paragraphs are appropriate. There is no Item, and students do not need an introduction, conclusion or extended evaluation.
The key phrase is socially constructed. An answer that merely describes different disabilities will not address the question. Students need to show how social arrangements, cultural definitions or interactions contribute to what counts as disability or to the experience of being disabled.
