AQA A-Level Sociology | Paper 2 | 2026 Predicted Paper | Section B: Stratification and Differentiation Mark Scheme
Question 22
Outline and explain two ways in which disability may affect an individual's life chances.
[10 marks]
What the question requires
Outline and explain requires students to identify two distinct ways disability may affect life chances and develop each sociologically. For 10 marks, two well-developed paragraphs are preferable to several short points. There is no Item and no requirement for an introduction, conclusion or extended evaluation.
Life chances should be interpreted broadly. Students might consider education, employment, income, health, housing, status or opportunities for social mobility. The key is to explain the connection between disability and the particular life chance identified.
A very similar official 2023 question asked how disability may affect chances of social mobility, and the mark scheme credited institutional discrimination, restricted occupational access, working from home, access to health care, welfare support and legal protections.
