Outline and explain two ways in which war and conflict may affect development.

What is expected in the answer?
Outline and explain means students should identify two distinct effects of war or conflict on development and develop how each effect occurs. For 10 marks, two substantial paragraphs are appropriate. There is no Item and no requirement for a conclusion or extended evaluation.
The key is to establish a chain such as:
conflict → social/economic consequence → effect on development.
Students should not simply describe the causes or events of a war. The specification requires the relationship between development and war and conflict, and AQA's specimen assessment explicitly recognises that conflict can itself further limit development.
