Outline and explain two ways in which gender may affect an individual's chances of social mobility.

What is expected in the answer?
Outline and explain means students should identify two distinct processes through which gender may affect movement between social positions and explain each one. For 10 marks, two developed paragraphs are appropriate. There is no need for an introduction, conclusion or extended evaluation.
The key is to keep the outcome, social mobility, explicit. A paragraph about gender inequality at work will only gain high marks if it explains how that inequality affects the individual's chances of moving upwards or downwards within the stratification system.
