AQA A-Level Sociology | Paper 3 | 2026 Predicted Paper | Theory and Methods Mark Scheme
Question 5
Outline and explain two characteristics of postmodern society.
[10 marks]
What is expected?
Outline and explain two means students must select two distinct characteristics of postmodern society and develop each one sociologically. This is not an essay requiring evaluation. The strongest answers explain the characteristic, use relevant concepts or sociologists, and analyse why it is regarded as a feature of postmodern society.
A useful approach is roughly one developed paragraph for each characteristic. Students should resist the temptation to list four or five characteristics superficially.
The official assessment-objective allocation is:
AO1: 5 marks
AO2: 3 marks
AO3: 2 marks
Here AO3 is principally analysis, not evaluation. The 2023 examiner report explicitly warned that students sometimes waste time evaluating these 10-mark "outline and explain" questions even though evaluation is not what the question demands.
