Why the Total Score Is Not Enough
A score such as 72% may look encouraging, but it does not tell you:
Which topics produced the missing 28%
Whether the final section was rushed
Whether application is weak
Whether calculation errors repeated
Whether an essay was generously marked
Whether the same mistake appeared several times
The analysis is more valuable than the headline score.
Should You Convert the Mark into a Grade?
You may use published boundaries from a relevant series as a rough reference.
However:

Predicted papers may differ in difficulty
Practice conditions may not match the exam
Subjective marking may be uncertain
Focus mainly on:
Topic scores

Improvement between attempts

Marking a practice paper is not simply about finding your score.
It should answer three questions:
What do I know?
Why did I lose marks?
What will I do differently next?
Use the mark scheme carefully.
Be strict about accuracy, application and development, but fair about alternative wording and valid approaches.
For levels-based questions:
Read the whole response
Use the assessment objectives
Choose the best-fit level
Decide where the answer sits within that level
Check for restrictions
Ask a teacher when the judgement is uncertain
Record marks by both topic and question type.
Then separate:

Understanding mistakes
Retrieval failures
Application errors
Command-word problems
Calculation mistakes
Timing issues
Careless errors
Turn each important weakness into a specific improvement task.
